About Big League Sports Excellence

The Sport Exchange is now Big League Sports Excellence

Big League Sports is a locally owned and operated hockey and baseball sporting goods store in Kitsilano, Vancouver, BC. Located at 2151 Burrard Street, we've been part of Vancouver's sporting community since 1996.

You may know us by our former name, The Sport Exchange. In 2019, longtime employees Ben Ludwig and Andrew Robinson purchased the business from its original owner, Peter Parsons. Today, Ben and Andrew continue to be hands-on owners, working in the store and helping customers every day.

The name has changed, but the people, location, staff and commitment to our customers haven't. The Sport Exchange is now Big League Sports Excellence.

A Name That Better Represents Who We Are

The name The Sport Exchange served us well for many years, but over time it created some confusion about what we actually do. The word "exchange" sometimes led people to believe we were a used sporting goods store.

Big League Sports better reflects who we are today: a full-service sporting goods store specializing in hockey and baseball equipment for players of all ages and skill levels.

From hockey sticks, skates, helmets and protective equipment to baseball bats, gloves, helmets, catcher’s gear and accessories, our goal is simple: help you find the right equipment for your game.

Locally Owned. Built Around the Sports We Love.

Ben and Andrew aren't professional athletes, but they've spent years playing the sports they sell. Both have been avid hockey and baseball players throughout their lives, from organized sports to the occasional beer league.

Their passion for hockey and baseball is a big part of why they wanted to own a sporting goods store — and why they're still so involved in the business today.

When you shop at Big League Sports, you're dealing with people who understand what it's like to choose a first hockey stick, break in a new baseball glove, find the right skates or help a young player get properly equipped for a new season.

We're here to help customers find the right gear for their needs and their budget, not simply the most expensive equipment on the wall.

Local Service, Bigger Buying Power

In 2023, Big League Sports became part of Sports Excellence, a network of more than 200 locally owned sporting goods stores across North America.

Being part of Sports Excellence gives our Vancouver store access to a broader selection of products and brands, along with the collective purchasing power of a much larger network. That means we can offer our customers more choice and competitive pricing while still providing the personal service of an independent, locally owned store.

We carry many of the leading names in hockey and baseball, including Bauer, CCM, Warrior, True, Rawlings, Wilson, Marucci and Louisville Slugger, along with a wide range of equipment and accessories for both kids and adults.

It's the best of both worlds: local ownership and personal service, with the buying power of a much larger network.

Part of the Vancouver Sports Community

Being a local business means more to us than simply having a Vancouver address. We believe in supporting the teams, organizations and athletes that make our community such a great place to play.

Big League Sports proudly supports local sports organizations and community initiatives, including:

• Kerrisdale Little League Baseball
• Vancouver Wildcats Softball
• Arbutus Club Minor Hockey
• Vancouver Thunderbirds Hockey Association
• UBC Varsity Baseball
• Vancouver Firefighter’s Charitable Society
• Slow-pitch for Kids

We love seeing young athletes get out there, learn the game, compete, make friends and — hopefully — develop a lifelong love of sport.

Still Your Local Sporting Goods Store

Whether you're a parent buying your child's first hockey skates, a baseball player looking for a new glove, a beer-league player replacing a well-loved stick or a competitive athlete looking for specific equipment, we're here to help.

People visit us from across Vancouver, Kitsilano and communities throughout Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, in part because of our competitive prices, but also because they know they'll get knowledgeable, personal service from a local team.

Same store. Same owners. Same people. New name.

Welcome to Big League Sports — Vancouver's locally owned destination for hockey and baseball equipment.
